What is Bachata Sensual?

Bachata Sensual emerged in Spain around 2005-2006 and has since grown to become one of the most popular partner dances in the world.

With roots in traditional bachata and influences from dance styles such as Lamba Zouk, the style is based on wave movements, body control, and isolations.

The dance follows the music with precision. Calm sections are interpreted with softness and flow, while stronger beats are often responded to with body waves, accents, or dips. It is not primarily choreography, but rather an interpretation of the feeling in each song.

Learn Sensual Bachata at iDance

Bachata Sensual is a technical and expressive dance style that focuses on body control, isolation, and wave movements. At iDance, you will learn to dance smoothly, flexibly, and with clear contact, both as a leader and a follower. The course is aimed at those who want to develop their technique, musicality, and ability to interpret music.

Our levels in Bachata Sensual

Level 1 – Foundations

This course is for you who have completed a beginner bachata course and want to start exploring the sensual style of bachata.

We introduce the core techniques of the style, including body control, isolations, body waves and body rolls. You will learn how to move smoothly and connect your movements to the music.

You do not need a partner to join the course. During the classes we rotate partners, but you are also welcome to sign up together with a partner.

Prerequisites
We recommend that you have completed a bachata beginner course or have similar basic experience.

Level 2 – Intermediate

This level is for dancers who have already taken a foundation course and want to continue developing their technique.

We work more with body control, musicality and how movements flow together naturally. You will learn new combinations and improve your ability to both lead and follow the movements clearly.

You do not need a partner to join. Partners rotate during the classes.

Prerequisites
You should have completed Level 1 or have similar experience.

Level 3 – Intermediate Plus

Level 3 is for dancers who already have solid experience and want to refine their technique further.

We focus on musicality, body control and more advanced combinations. The goal is to develop better precision, smoother flow and stronger connection between leader and follower.

The course is open to both individuals and couples.

Level 4 – Advanced

This level is designed for experienced dancers who already have strong bachata foundations and regularly social dance.

We work with more complex sequences, advanced techniques and deeper musical interpretation. The focus is on precision, creativity and developing a more personal expression in your dance.

Prerequisites
You should have completed Level 3 or have equivalent experience.

A brief history of Bachata Sensual

Bachata Sensual emerged in 2005-2006 in Cádiz, Spain, developed by Jorge “Korke” Escalona, who wanted to express the emotions of bachata music through the body in a new way.

Inspired by traditional Dominican bachata, but also by dances such as Lamba Zouk, he developed a style in which wave movements, isolations, and body control became central elements.

Together with Judith Cordero, he refined the style, and the duo quickly became known for their unique musicality and soft, supple dance.

A special detail is that Korke did not learn to dance in the traditional way; he is self-taught. This contributed to his thinking outside the box and creating something completely new.

After this, Bachata Sensual grew from local workshops in Spain to a worldwide movement, and today Korke & Judith teach at international festivals all over the world.

The style is particularly popular in Europe and Latin America, where it is mixed with other dance influences and continues to evolve.
