Bachata class

Bachata

Bachata is a couple dance originating from the Dominican Republic. Bachata music is calmer than Salsa and the dance is more intimate. The first bachata song to hit big was Bachata Rosa with Juan Luis Guerra in the early 90s. Despite that, the music did not have its big impact until the beginning of the 2000s with the group Aventura. Aventura managed to modernize Bachata through R&B influences and was therefore able to reach a wider audience. Aventura’s breakthrough not only made the music style grow but also the dance developed, this new kind of Bachata music inspired dancers worldwide to express themselves in new ways. The big breakthrough for bachata dance came in 2008 through Ataca and Alemana’s Bachata performance, which has now been viewed close to 100 million times on Youtube.

Bachata has three main styles that you can see and try when you take a bachata course or go out and dance Bachata in Stockholm. Unlike salsa, these styles are usually freely mixed by the dancers.

Dominican Bachata

Dominican Bachata is characterized by very fast footwork and very rarely contains spins or turns. This style is sometimes called “authentic bachata”. The style fits very well with traditional Bachata music that has a strong emphasis on the guitar, the dancers reflect the fast notes of the guitar through their footwork.

Bachata Fusion

Bachata has developed through the use of turns and patterns from dances such as Salsa and Tango, thus creating fusions. Sometimes a separate name is used for the bachata tango fusion called Bachatango

Sensual Bachata

The sensual Bachata is a style that has become very popular in recent years. The style has influences from Lamba zouk and contains a lot of wave movements and body isolations. The style is usually more intimate than the other Bachata styles.
